Gettin' Full!

The other day when the sun was out and I got home earlier than this last week I had a chance to grab a shot of the Bridge Bay Marina. The Marina should be busier this year and the "island" is actually an island again and the boats are ready to go.  The lake level now is about 45 feet from the top. Take a look at these older posts from last year:  http://stoneroads.blogspot.com

Old Timer

I saw this good looking old timer at the Greenview Post Office on Friday. Quite a nicely restored old automobile.  Look closely at the glass door of the PO and you can see the owner coming out. You can also see the small dog in the front seat. The reflection and placement of the sun makes it look like the side of the car is unfinished, but it is beautiful.

A Different View

I made a different stop to get this photo of the "other side" of Castle Crags near Dunsmuir. Quite a beautiful place, especially with the leftover snow still visible.

Antlers Bridge Project

The boat launching ramp is open again at Antler's Marina so I was able to get a couple shots from a different angle on the Antler's Bridge work. The higher lake level is allowing a lot more access for boat launching now from different boat ramps around the  lake.  The lake is only about 52 feet from the top and still rising.  We have another storm coming in this week end.

A Pair of Peacocks and a Chain

I saw a pair of peacocks sitting on this fence facing in opposite directions in a rural area of Weed the other day. Maybe they were having a little fight. I noticed there was a chain there also.

Lake Levels and the ABP

The lake level continues to rise. It has come up another 7-8 feet this week.  In the Antler's Bridge Project picture you can see the difference by comparing this picture with the post on Monday February the 8th. Look at the construction ramp culvert below the ramp (to the right near the bottom) on February 8th. Today it is under water. On the 8th the level was at 1003 feet, and today it is at 1011.

Old Buildings

I deliver to the Fort Jones area quite regularly and noticed the date on the front posts of this old building. It is from Ashland Ironworks in 1897.
Also notice the old fashion "letter drop" in the front of the building.

Lake Levels

The lake level of Shasta Lake has risen 53 feet in one month. It has gone from 953 feet on January 14th to 1006 feet on February 12th. It is amazing as a one foot rise in the lake level is about 11,800 acre feet of water. Right now the lake holds about 3,614,100 acre feet of water and is now only about 60 feet from the top of the dam. (A full lake).
We have had rain almost every day in February and almost every day in January.

Oversize Load

We had a big load come down the street as we were leaving the Anderson hub today. Not sure what it was or where it was going but they had the traffic blocked in both directions.

Chickens and Old Churches

I had a few deliveries in Hornbrook the other day and had not been across the other side of the tracks before. A real old St. John's Catholic Church, a white picket fence and a few street wise chickens were waiting for me.

Shasta Lake Continues to Rise

The water level at Shasta Lake has gone up almost 11 feet in the past week during February. On Sunday the 31st of January the lake level was at 989.04 (a full lake has 1067 feet) and on the 7th of February the lake level was at 1001.43.

The Antler's Bridge Project is still going on and the sun was out long enough to get a quick picture today. They have a lot of the pilings in place but had to move the equipment out of that section of the lake at the beginning of this storm.

Sawyers Bar

Had a little trip to Sawyer's Bar today and was pleased to find out that most of the road was clear of snow, but several places still had snow and ice.
We don't need no guard rails here...
