Redding sets record low temperature

The Redding Municipal Airport hit 16 degrees Wednesday morning, setting an all-time low and wreaking a little havoc on local plumbing.

The previous low - 17 degrees - was set on Jan. 13, 1930, and was matched on Dec. 21, 1990, according to the National Weather Service.

Meanwhile, the Redding area will experience another day of unseasonably cold and clear weather before clouds move in and bring a chance of rain later this week.

Just like Tuesday and Wednesday, there is a freeze warning for the area, with widespread frost expected before 9 a.m. today.

Tonight brings a 30 percent chance of rain for the far northern Sacramento Valley, according to the National Weather Service. Along with rain, the storm should bring warmer temperatures.

"The storm coming over the weekend will warm us up a little," said Angus Barkhuff, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Sacramento.
