Scott Bar

Today I had some deliveries in Etna, Happy Camp and the Scotts Bar Post Office. A small town with a small Post Office which is half library and half Post Office. The building is about 20 feet by 15 feet or so. Note the picture of the town in 1857.

Scott River Road

I use Scott River Road to cut across the mountain when traveling from the Fort Jones-Etna area to Seiad Valley and Happy Camp to make deliveries. It is quite a nice "little" road as long as you don't meet any other vehicles, especially trucks or pickups and trailers. It is quite a drop from the road down to the river below and note the lack of any type of guard rail. Also, it was quite a relief to not meet any trucks while I was taking these pictures through the wind shield.

R-Ranch in Hornbrook

I go north to Hornbrook, close to the Oregon border, several times a month in the summer to the R-Ranch spread. It has fishing, hunting, rafting, swimming, camping and horse back riding and much more to do. Below are some of the horses I spotted on the acreage.
Below the horses is a squirrel that didn't make it to the other side of the road.

Hot Weather and Melting Snow

Our recent hot spell (10 days over 100 degrees) and more hot weather scheduled is melting the remaining snow from Mount Shasta.

The Tennant Fire

Highway 97 to Macdoel, Dorris and Klamath Falls was closed Monday due to a forest fire. I had no deliveries there on Monday so that worked out well. I went to Macdoel yesterday and the road had reopened.

The blaze is dubbed the Tennant Fire because it's burning near the turnoff to Tennant - a Siskiyou County town of 82 residents surrounded by the Klamath National Forest.

The fire primarily is burning east of Old State Highway 97, which remained open Tuesday after having been closed Monday. The route is being monitored for smoke effects. Residents as far away as Mount Shasta, 30 miles to the south, reported seeing the fire's smoke plume.

Firefighters are trying to beat back the flames to protect bald eagle nesting and winter roost habitat, historical and prehistorical resources, and riparian areas along Butte Creek, the Forest Service spokesman said.

Small Town Post Offices

Another nice little town is Eagleville, CA. It is 17 miles south of Cedarville. It is a nice, quiet town where it's past seems to have been it's highpoint. The only thing left is a post office, a very small store, a graveyard and a few buildings that could have been storefronts at one time, but now look very closed. Rugged mountains to the east and a peaceful valley to the west towards Nevada then another mountain range.

River Rafting

I see a lot of gold dredges and people working the river but as the weather continues to warm up the adventurous ones come forward. The Klamath offers excitement in river rafting and kayaking through the rapids and the calmer areas.

Fast Tango

I was passed by this little electric Tango last night. I was going 70 on my way home and this guy changed lanes, went past me, and was gone! Faster than a speeding bullet.
Click Tango above to read article.

I also just found a video of the Tango at the autocross.
