The Moon, Venus and Jupiter

Look to the southwest after sunset on Dec. 1 for a close conjunction between three bright solar system objects: the moon, Venus and Jupiter. If you have binoculars, you might even be able to fit all three of them in the field of view. Between now and then, you can see Jupiter and Venus getting closer together each evening.

Warm November

Wow, we had an 80 degree day on Saturday and about 75 today. Way too warm for November and we need some rain badly.

Ready for Snow

I saw this good looking '61 Chevy 4 door yesterday in McCloud. I believe they are ready for the snow!

New Lower Gas Prices

A sight we thought we would never see again. Gas for $1.88 a gallon. Some places a few pennies less. Unfortunately the stock market is going down as fast as the gas prices. The Dow closed today at 7,552.29, down another 444 points today.

Remember This Old Sign?

This old Coca Cola sign is on the side of a gas station/market in the small town of Castella, CA. just south of Dunsmuir on I-5.

Dirt roads, ditch roads and hay barns

Today my route went to Tulelake, just along the Oregon border for a few miles then back south for a ways. The gravel road leading to the destination was closed for repair so I had to use an irrigation ditch road to reach my stop. Plenty of hay still available from this area but it will run low by spring.

Whoo Hoo!

Our gas prices in the Redding area have dropped to less than $2 per gallon for the first time since February, 2005. This is very good news for those of us who fill up every day!

Jones Valley Marina

My last delivery today was up at Juniper Drive in Redding. This is quite close to the Jones Valley Marina so I went over to see the lake level in that area. There isn't much water here either. The road you can see along the banks should be covered by thirty feet of water.
As always, click image for a larger view.

Still No Water

I had a few deliveries in Lakehead along Lakeshore Drive. Unfortunately there wasn't much water in the "lake"head or the "lake"shore. Pretty darn empty in this area too. After you enlarge the photo of the railroad trestle (top photo) you can see some vehicles and even some people down under where the water should be. The other photo is looking back at the I-5 Bridge crossing the chasm that used to be a lake.

A Beautiful View

The clouds and fog finally left the area after the recent storm to reveal a most beautiful mountain. The fresh snow is so white and pure and aptly crowns this beautiful creation. (click image for a larger picture)

Early Snowfall

I had snow today on most stops on my route. Snow in Mount Shasta, snow in Dorris, snow in McCloud. What a day!

Rainbows and Fresh Snow

We had quite a change in weather yesterday. Rainstorms, snow on the mountains and an occasional rainbow. The rainbow was captured just north of Weed on highway 97. The shot of Mount Shasta was made north of Weed also heading south on highway 97 later in the day. Some awesome clouds are blocking most of the view of Mount Shasta and hiding the fresh snow.
