Copper Ridge Care Center greeter

I deliver pay checks to Copper Ridge every two weeks and Jay is the friendliest guy in town!

A local U.S. Air Force veteran is using his charm to lighten the mood at a rehab center in Redding.

Visitors who walk into Copper Ridge Care Center are greeted by Jay Miller's contagious smile. Miller, 64, is the greeter at Copper Ridge, where he has served for almost a year.

"This job allows me to do what comes naturally," Miller said. "I just love being open with people, and they seem to appreciate that."

Originally from Pittsburgh, Miller has lived for more than six years at the neighboring River Oaks Retirement Community. It was there that he saw an advertisement on a bulletin board for the volunteer position.

"I was always taught that the first appearance is the most important," said Miller, who wears a white suit daily to work.

Miller started at the center as a volunteer, but management was so happy with him that they hired him.
