It was a blast!

click picture for larger viewI had a long run on Friday from Redding to Macdoel to Tulelake so I decided to come back through the Fall River Mills/Burney area on 299 to see how the construction was coming on the road straightening near Round Mountain.
On the small map to the left you can see how much of a curve the original road had. The blue area shows the new construction.



click picture for larger viewLast month demolition experts starting blasting away parts of the hillside. Motorists were held back from the blast zone and had about a 20-minute delay until the road could be cleared. Blasting further west along the 1.2-mile, $6-million highway straightening project is tentatively scheduled for next week. The project is expected to be completed by December.
